“Bilge is a master who has been able to elaborate his own alphabet, with which he tells us his thoughts. The world of modern and contemporary art, after having great success with the cubism of Picasso, the surrealism of Dali and Warhol’s pop art, gets to know the language “Bilgeniano”. This alphabet consists of entries, which have their most real essence in their conceptualism of form and colour brilliance. Those who observe the works of Bilge remain extremely impressed. The meanings of such compositions are difficult to interpret at first sight. This painting, in fact, consists of latent meanings that aim to conceal certain parts of the process of signification. In reading these works, therefore you should not make the mistake to make an aberrant decoding. The works of Bilge reside in a conceptual universe, which makes them real works of art: works that reveal eternal truths, enlightening works that contain essential knowledge to be handed down to posterity.”

This work is my contemporary interpretation of the three graces. The ear, eye and mouth are my symbols of the inner beauty of those who display certain attractive feminine qualities. My thoughts are those with a beautiful mind will listen very carefully to understand what is being said, they will use their eyes to see very clearly what is going on around them and their talking will be meaningful and beautiful. Whereas others are deaf to the world, only see the superficial aspects of reality and their talking is meaningless, revealing an empty mind or an ugly worldview.
Surprise is a metaphor for the uncertainty of life. The expression of the face at the top right is “Surprise”. The image is a woman who discovers she has breast cancer. The large carved profile on the left has a blind eye to signify that many people go through life in a trance unaware of what’s going on and then become unpleasantly surprised as events unfold. The yellow profile on the right signifies that sometimes life can also deliver pleasant surprises. The work is an example of my Turkish Whirling technique with many abstract portraits hidden deep within the fluid forms to express the range of emotions associated with life’s many surprises.
A human face in profile represents one person’s life journey. It starts full of bright yellow energy, with many potential hopes and opportunities for a promising future. Years later the same life in the cracked blue area with all hopes shattered. Haunted by ghosts of the past, wrong decisions, missed opportunities and paths not taken. In this work I wanted to convey my thoughts and concerns about the human condition. The work is a metaphor for all humanity. The large face symbolises human life on earth. Human beings were born into a natural paradise with the ability to make choices about how life unfolds. The central cracked face suggests the Human Race has not achieved the world that the ancient ancestors may have hoped for.
